Max Baucus, D-MT, investigating a so-called charity named Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF). Disabled American Veterans (DAV) has no affiliation whatsoever with DVNF. DVNF is also not affiliation with Disabled Veterans Life Memorial Foundation, a separately incorporated organization which is building the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial under congressionally passed Public Law 106-348.

Disabled American Veterans is entirely separate from other veterans' organizations, and the only congressionally chartered organization providing service to all disabled veterans regardless of disability. DAV's extraordinary record of service to America's disabled veterans stands alone. Among Disabled American Veterans' many veterans support programs is DAV's Veterans Transportation Network. Each business day volunteer drivers transport veterans in DAV vans at no-cost to the veteran to the veteran's authorized appointments — rain or shine, blizzard or heat, local or distant. Montana's volunteer drivers for DAV consistently rank in the top 10 nationally in veterans transported, miles driven and volunteer hours gratuitously given.

DAV's annual reports are available at http://www.dav.org. The mission of Disabled American Veterans is clear and narrow; policing other nonprofit organizations is not what DAV does. Sadly America has so-called veterans organizations which just don't do the right thing. Disabled American Veterans nationally and in Montana urges veterans and citizens everywhere to ensure any veterans organization which citizens contribute to or support truly helps America's veterans.

Edward E. According to DVNF's 2008 audit, only $127,421 or less than 1% of DVNF's $16.3 million budget could have been spent on grants or aid to individuals. Except for this amount and a $40,000 unrestricted grant to a related party, all the rest of DVNF's reported program expenses of $4.5 million were direct mail related.
