Has anyone heard of having to take the ASVAB again to go from Army to Air Force?

A recruiter told me that I've been out too long and have to take it again. How true is this?

Well, I had to retake the ASVAB from when I was actively in the Reserves and going Active Duty. Then I took it again after having been out for 5.5 yrs when I was coming back in.

when I was going to do the corps after getting out I had to retake the asvab, the test is only good for about 3 or 4 years of I remember correctly.

I would guess about 18%.

Either it is true or it is not. I am kind of doubting that the Air Force recruiter is having you retake the ASVAB for no reason, but even recruiters can be wrong.
My real question is what was your original ASVAB score...they may need PS numbers to be higher to enlist?

I've been trying to get back in for 17 years & haven't had to take the ASVAB once. Every recruiter I've talked to has indicated that I'm good to go on the ASVAB.

It's not because of the Air Force thing, it's because you were out too long. I had to do the same. I left left and joined the guard after a three year break. But when I tried to transfer back to active duty I had to retake the ASVAB.

I had a year and a few months break from my original contract and decided to come back in to the same unit, they had me take the ASVAB again, easier the second time it was all computer stuff.

This is entirely true. I had no break in Service and had to take the ASVAB again going from Army to AF.

I always wondered how my ASVAB scores changed over time, even though I had not retaken the test. I knew some people who would retake it when trying to change career fields.

Current Army recruiter- I've seen a dozen prior service people join the Army and we never have them take the ASVAB again. Once you join the military, your scores remain there forever. The only reason you would need to retake the test is if your scores suck, or you simply require higher scores for the jobs available to PS people.

BS I was out 23 years and was asked if I would take it again to speed up the process because recruiter said it was going to take him longer to get my old scores but I did not have to retake. Going from Air Force to Army, as it turned out my scores improved.

I remember in the early 80’s where troops with a low score were required to retest or be separated.

Hello Sir,

Navy Vet here, my husband is active duty on DDG80 USS Roosevelt in Rota, Spain.. We are going through a bit of financial hardship due to having a house in the States. We have decided to send me, the wife, and our three kids back to the States to ease this issue. We routed our Early Return of Dependents chit and saw a financial counselor late September. The chit hasn’t been routed to PERS yet even though he asks about it everyday. We are in a financial hardship that is is getting very stressful, do you have any other options for transferring dependents?
