Has anyone here voluntarly left AGR Program ?

So im in a spot where im debating about leaving this Nightmare of AGR (1st tour). If I do so, what happens next. Also to initiate this movement I would need to submit a 4187 correct?

If you are stuck in a shit Unit, 4187 your way to another Command. If you do walk away (Which I would discourage), make sure you can stay in TPU-Land. Gotta get that 20 year letter....

Before doing that, see if you can work at another unit that is not FUBAR.

I would advise against coming off tour. Unless you have an equivalent or better civilian job lined up. Your current assignment is temporary, state side tour length is 3-5 years on station. I know that your initial assignment can be a bit of a culture shock AGR is not like Regular Army or traditional Army Reserve. We are the problem solvers and often we're thrown into the fray without any support and have to make order from chaos. The way forward is to do it for the Soldiers, protect them from toxic and ineffective command teams, get them trained, and make something from nothing.

I've never been in the program myself but as a retired Government employee on the civilians side I think I can say all jobs have their ups and downs. I will state that over the years I have met some really good soldiers in the program but there are also a number of less than outstanding ones. I think you also have to seriously consider all the benefits you will be leaving behind even if you become a TPU soldier.

Yes, mine was to accept direct commissioning though. A 4187 through your OFTS to your PMO should make it happen.

did you ever receive an answer to this question ? I'm looking to leave the AGR To go active but my commander isn't budging with my decision which I am positive I want to go active duty

I am AGR as well. I am loving it a lot, but my spouse is very sick and i am required to fly at least every other month for conferences, etc. I would like to know if I can REFRAD, this is my initial tour. It has been about one year I have been here. Thanks guys

You may want to stick it out as if you opt out with the 4187 you will be reassigned to the IRR with concurrent assignment to a tpu. Caution as you may be reassigned from irr to you not of your choosing!!!

I am right there with you...(first tour) and I am done. Nothing can make this better. Also they offered one position then cut my orders for another. the ole bait and switch.
