More if you want it delivered instead of driving it from port.
You can also buy a used car on post for about $1200-$2500 and sell it on the same lot when you leave. Buy a beater off the lemon lot for $500 bucks. The owner will have to have it pass TUV inspection before it can be sold so you won't get screwed.

You won't be able to drive for two weeks anyway. That's the wait list for the driver course and exam for the USAREUR license. I would either buy new in Germany and ship that back (some really nice options) or buy used. Study up on the driving test, it is like no other. It used to be 190 something, USAEUR (SP?) policy. Google it, the really arrogant people take 2-3 times to pass. It's minimal expense, not near the hassle with the inspections.

If you ship a vehicle from the US before you can take possession of it it has to pass all tests. If you get the tests done before you ship it, you still will not be able to drive in USAREUR for something like 2-3 weeks as there is a wait on the course and license. SSG Brian G.
