To me the CSB is not a bonus since:
1. You have to pay it back through your retirement. Example is if you were going to get 50% of your High 3. You now get 40% till you are 65 in age.
2. If you are not deployed you get taxed and receive only $22k. Versus $30k not taxed if deployed.
I myself took the bonus at 15 years in due to the need to pay some expensive bills and work needed on my "gulp" mini van. Also took a great 2 week leave to Colorado driving from Ft Polk.
Unless you really need it for bills, repairs, or want it for savings for . The future. I don't recommend it. It is not worth the loss of your retirement for like in my case 27 years. Your full retirement could pay all your bills and your civilian paycheck could be for anything you want.
Whats your thoughts and experience on the CSB?
