Depends on where you felt it. If it was in your sternum or rib cage it can get pretty serious but if it were actually in your pecs or any other muscle you probably just strained it from lack of stretching or overworking. In either case you can rest a couple days and try again at a lighter weight if it still hurts or is at a point you can't push past definitely see a medic or Doctor.

I am doing bench presses without pain today. I am so relieved :D, although I am doing repetitions and ignoring maxing out.

Good call. I've always avoided maxing out. Although mostly due to my long Gibbon arms.

Successful rehab from a partial pec tear? | RallyPoint
I suffered a partial pec tear (tendon pulled off bone) three days ago while bench pressing. Looking at surgery tomorrow (will keep this post updated). I'm curious if you have had a partial or complete pectoral muscle tear, and if you did, did you have surgery or try rehab without surgery? And how did your recovery go?

I am stretching a lot and will try to bench today. I hope your surgery goes well.
