I started bench pressing and felt a painful pop in my chest. What the hell happened. I am not in chronic pain and think I will try to bench tomorrow. I don't want to be sidelined because working out is a big focus in my life.

Depends on where you felt it. If it was in your sternum or rib cage it can get pretty serious but if it were actually in your pecs or any other muscle you probably just strained it from lack of stretching or overworking. In either case you can rest a couple days and try again at a lighter weight if it still hurts or is at a point you can't push past definitely see a medic or Doctor.

I am doing bench presses without pain today. I am so relieved :D, although I am doing repetitions and ignoring maxing out.

Good call. I've always avoided maxing out. Although mostly due to my long Gibbon arms.

I am stretching a lot and will try to bench today. I hope your surgery goes well.
