No, but i had to give up Direct Support Mechanics to do organizational maintenance at another unit. I ended up pulling them back and taking their equipment into my shops as overflow maintenance because they didn't get utilized correctly.

Sounds like the command is trying to fix a backlog of maintenance. Not everything requires a mechanic.... services, Troops seats in an LMTV, light assemblies, doors, even changing major assemblies. There is value to having the mechanic stay on the job, or going between two jobs with someone less skilled doing the work Under direction....kind of like Rachel Ray's production assistants, so at the end of the show she can open the oven And the perfect casserole comes out.

Another reason I hate two level maintenance.

Does your unit have operators accompany the equipment into services? That was fairly standard for twenty years. Helps operators learn their equipment, which comes in handy in combat if you have to do BDAR.

You've never had to all line up at the NBC room and do annual services on your pro Masks? That was also pretty standard. Monthlies on radios? Cyclic services on weapons?

It happens...dont stay in that position for too long. It's good for you to know the maintenance in a more in depth aspect. I have been in that type of situation but it was admin side. It can only make you better if you let it.

I was an 11B for 10 years before transferring to transportation (64C at the time). I left the Trail at Ft Dix to Ft Lewis were I was assigned to the 4/23 Inf as the support Plt sgt. They needed me as a line Plt Sgt more so for a little over a year I worked in my secondary MOS until I got orders for Germany.

As an 11B I worked in the HHC as an Asst S# (air,Ammo, Schools), and worked in the S4 as SPT PLT PSG/BN Ammo Chief. THat mean controlling/maintaining, 1/2 tn Trucks, trailers, water buffalo's, jeeps and later HMMV's.
