Good morning, this is my first post on RP so go easy on me. I am considering returning to active duty, and I wanted to see if there were any other E-5 35L that have used the Prior Service Business rules to return to active duty. What was your experience, how did you/the Army determine your duty station, any issues at MEPS, etc? I have spoken to a recruiter and he said everything would be a go if I started the process, but my wife is having some reservations, specifically with not knowing where we would be stationed until I went to sign papers. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If your recruiter said it would be a go then really the only question is where you will be sent. It could be anywhere to include Afghanistan (well, not your wife). If your wife isn't prepared for any assignment worldwide I suggest you don't do this. She should also know that you will likely PCS every 3 years. Do you have kids? That's also a concern. I grew up traveling the world (my father was Air Force) and my mom and I loved it, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Disclose everything to you spouse first and ensure she's OK with it or be prepared for a divorce down the road.

Good morning Chief, thank you for the advice. I have been up front with her about everything, which is why she has reservations. I have tried to tell her military life can be hectic at times, but it is a really good life. We had some changes recently which made me bring up the active duty option, but, as you suggest, we will not proceed unless she is comfortable with it. Thanks, have a great day!

I'm a recruiter and a Agent. I have thought of this a few times since being out here. Right now unless the Mos'es you can return to are slim but CI maybe doable but how long have you been away from the program?

I am currently in the reserves, but I received my E-5 while on active duty. The active duty recruiter that I spoke to last year look at the prior service business rules and said he could have me back in uniform in about a month, as long as my reserve unit would release me from my contract. Here are the current rules:

The Prior Service Business Rules acts as a guide for Soldiers who are interested in reenlisting in the regular Army.

This happened in the early 90's as I recall. The states thought owning combat arms was sexier than combat support. They won the argument. Special Forces in the reserves folded up at the end of FY 94 - I was in 12th SF Group.
