I&#39;m a member of the South Carolina State Guard ... originated in 1775 by Francis Marion (Swamp Fox) ... the movie &quot;The Patriot&quot; with Mel Gibson was based on Marion&#39;s military background. The current SC State Guard is about 1000 non-paid military reporting to a 2-star who reports to the SC Adjutant General, in turn to the Governor. We respond to natural and man-made disasters and back up local National Guard and Police/Security. During HC Joaquin, SC SG Engineers gave thousands of man-hours to the Governor assessing bridges, dams, dkies and infrastructure.
