Have heard of many guys getting a school op before or after a PCS. Retention has told me that this is not possible. Experiences? Possible?

The college option is a local reenlistment incentive. I did six months of school when I reenlisted at Ft Lewis. Your retention NCO will know what is available and who qualifies.

Most schools that are attended TDY enroute are ASI/SQI producing or MOS specific. The gaining unit usually has to have a need or a coded slot in order for the Soldier to attend. NCOES courses can be TDY enroute because it's a PME school. Most schools have a stabilization requirement, your unit won't pay for you to attend a school if you are just going to leave and not use your gained knowledge for the good of the unit. Does that make sense?

Im sorry SGM, I should have provided more information. This is in refrence to civilian schooling. I have seen a few people come to units and immediately have 6 months off for civilian schooling.

Ok roger I am tracking. I don't think the college option is available anymore as a reenlistment option but I think the company commander can give that to Soldiers as an incentive but it's completely up to the commander to honor that incentive. It's usually done in writing through a memorandum. Like I said it's up to the commander because it's not an Army program.

Back in 1983 I came down on orders for Germany and Basic Leadership school where I went
to BLC in Edgewood MD and returned back to my unit and then started to clear base and housing.
