I never give money...and seldom give to panhandlers....BUT!
Yesterday I pulled up into a parking spot and while getting my grandson out of his seat, a female approached me with two boys.

She said that she didn't have money to feed her children and that they were all hungry.

I parked right in front of a Subway...I told her I didn't carry cash, only credit. I told her I would buy her and her kids food from Subway.

We all went inside and I purchased a foot long chicken, three bags of chips and drinks...and told the cashier that she would tell him what to put on the sandwich.

A few months back I was at an intersection after getting off of the highway. A lady came out from underneath the over pass and and asked me for money for food. I told her I didn't carry cash....Slowly, one by one her kids came out from underneath the over pass. ....all dirty and hungry....I had just purchased a 20 piece family meal from Churches. I handed it to her and said "here you go. Please go and feed our family."

I am wondering if there are any other RP members who have similar stories and perhaps you would like to share them.

Yes, same has happened to me. There is a difference between panhandlers who choose to live by begging and those who are truly homeless and hungry. I was walking into a grocery store one day and saw a guy sitting by the door. While in the store I bought him a huge sandwich and large bottle of water. I handed it to him on the way out and he teared up, thanked me and tore into the food!!

While there are some that actually are homeless most that you give food throw it away as soon as you are out of sight. I have seen some with a whole pile of food in the ditch behind them. Often the kids are just a prop. Some of them here in this area have been working the same corner for years.

Yes I have been approached. I always tell them I do not have any money on me and then I tell them of the nearest church, food bank, and/or shelter that can assist them better. I have seen too many real stories of people posing as homeless, etc just to get money and they drive better cars than me. Also, some of them use it to buy drugs or alcohol. I give to organizations that I know and trust. Sorry, but that's how I feel.

I had a similar situation in New Orleans, a mother approached me along with her children. I brought them in with me and sat with them for lunch. I paid for the meal with my credit card and gave the woman $40 (it was all I had with me). I know it touched her because she was also getting teary eyed. I typically do not support giving cash to folks that are financially challenged but I did it on that occasion.
