Have you ever been stationed in Aviano or Fort Riley?

Anyone here been or currently posted at Fort Riley or Aviano AB? What comments do you have for someone looking to accept a role at both locations for a 5+ year term?

I am at Fort Riley. All I can say about it is it is next to nothing, but half way to everything.

well, Aviano has one thing going for it. it's in Italy!!!! gotta be better than Kansas any day!!! take Aviano!!!!

I have been to both. For me there is no choice here. Italy has so much to offer. You can come to KS anytime.

Aviano without a doubt. You can travel anywhere you want when you’re off duty. I went to Zurich, Paris, Rome, London and stopped in every little village I could while driving. Venice was probably one of the highlights to me and I could catch the train to get there. They just don’t run exactly on time all the time. Have fun. Don’t be a barracks rat.

Fort Riley, depending on the organization you work for, is a great place. Kansas has everything you need, but not everything you want. For those wants, they do have Interstates and airports! Seriously, Ft Riley is a good place to be stationed. I was there for 13 years as a civilian and loved it. Consider living in Manhattan, though, since that's where the lifestyle is more active.

I actually enjoyed Riley. Though I spent almost my entire time down at the airfield. It’s a very historical post (Think Custor). I didn’t live on post, lived in Manhattan. If your an outdoors person it is a great place. You have Topeka , course Manhattan and Kansas City in reach. Stay away from Junction City, friendly advice.
