Have you ever had a Company/ Battalion/Brigade Commander that would sacrifice his/her career for doing what's right?

had a few Company Commanders that had no problem telling it like it was. And, ironically, both were Combat Engineer officers. And both served as CC for the same company

The one that sticks out most was the Battalion Commander. It was mid - late 90's and the AAV was long in the tooth but modernization didn't seem to be on the horizon. He made leaking torsion tubes a dead-lining criteria which essentially dead-lined the entire battalion. From what I understand he had to go dance on the Division's red carpet to explain why the battalion was non-mission capable and subsequently the Division was degraded (no ability for lift from sea to shore means no infantry going ashore). Although it was a miserable week or so of nearly round the clock maintenance rebuilding torsion tubes I think it is what helped get the funds moving toward what eventually became the RAM/RS upgrades.

My last two COL Commanders were that way and expected it from all around them. Both are wearing three stars now, so it works for many.

We had a patrol that "happened" when the commander was ordered to after the platoon was hit really hard on the previous mission. Sometimes you do see commanders standing up and trying to protect Soldiers but it is hard to balance Soldier protection with balance of mission.

MAJ Private RallyPoint Member I never had the opportunity to tell during my short time, but I once saw an LTC here on RP tell someone that he'd ignore uniform regs to wear his uniform to a friend's funeral because the family wanted it. I thought to myself, reading that, that he was a guy I wouldn't mind working for.

I was a Finance Commander in a meeting with other Company Commanders and Brigade Commander. I told him I have one soldier in the office and rest were doing Red Cycle. It was so bad I ended up doing the weed eating. The COL acted like I was not a team player, but I had to tell him.

I was really proud of my BC. I was the staff officer and noticed the barracks AC was not working. It felt like 90 degrees in there. I told the BC and he answered WTF am I supposed to do? The following day he had the Division Commander inspecting the barracks.

Yes. C.O submitted a 500,000 flipl when conducting initial CSDP inspection after taking command. Was suspended from command immediatley for 30 days.

I reported the lowest readiness rating because my unit had protection and communications shortfalls so dire I couldn’t live with it. Took three months for anyone to notice at my HHQ, then my Senior Rater had a come to Jesus meeting with me. Why he was pissed: I didn’t tell him first.
