Have you ever had subordinates do precisely what you tell them to do? Isn't it annoying?

In AIT I was a member of a squad that included all college graduates. One who had a degree in economics from Harvard drove sergeants crazy by doing precisely what he was told to do. For example, when told to put cartons of milk in a cooler with ice, he "placed" the heavy block on top crushing all of them. In time, he was relegated to the sidelines where he observed the rest of us working. His plan worked

When I had young privates try pulling "high school juvenile" stunts like that, my corrective training included juvenile stupid things to accomplish. It didn't take long for them to realize they weren't in high school anymore.

Exactly. You want to be an assshole, let's play. I have far more experience than you do, private.

Goes to show you that one must be clear and precise with instructions. After I got stop lossed, I only did what I was specifically told and nothing more. If I wasn't given instructions to show up to formation, I didn't. It irritated my platoon sergeant to no end and brought me a small amount of amusement lol.

Maj John Bell - I wasn't insubordinate, I just took 0 initiative of any kind. I did just enough to get by and nothing more. She couldn't get me for article 92 since I rendered the proper respect and followed every order to the letter. She was not a good leader. She only cared about herself and her evaluation so I had 0 incentive to want to go above and beyond. Maybe things would have been different had she been a good leader, but things unfolded as they will. It all worked out in the end. She is still an E-7 and I went on to a successful civil service career.

SSG Robert Webster - Major Powers was a complete Hollywood fiction. You do not transfer from supply to the infantry, let alone a recon battalion.

Maj John Bell - Heck most of the movie is fiction. Most of the story behind the creation of the script is also fiction.

We had a group of kids straight out of tech school. We told them all to get some samples of exhaust. They all ran outside with plastic bags trying stand behind the aircraft.

We had a new LT in a panic because he forgot to bring the black smoke for night helicopter operations. As you all know, you can't use flairs at night and white smoke blinds the pilot's NVGs.

When I was deployed to Incirlik, Turkey for Operation Provide Comfort II I had a SSgt try and send me out for a board stretcher. Being in Civil Engineering, I went over to the wood shop and we put a frame together and created a slider with some rope attached. Put his name on it and I took it back over to him. He actually took it home on the plane when he left LOL

We legit had an Airman go to three different AMUs followed by the Cops unit trying to get K9P Lube. For gear actuators. I was lucky enough to work with aircraft in the civilian sector before I had joined, so most of the bs didn't work on me. I was an electrician, and I had a new kid going to CTK for prop-wash. Neither questioning that there was specific wash for props, or why an electrician would be responsible for washing props.

When I was in basic traing my drill sgt told me to run up to the 3rd floor and ask for a prickE5. It was early on so I fell for it. The response was...NO, BUT I GOT A PRICK E8 for ya! So I relayed the comment made, and my drill sgt says for me to ask again. Then it hit me. Drill sgt, are you asking me to insult another NCO? He replies, yes. The fastest one yet!
