Have you ever participated in the Vierdaagse in Nijmegen? What was your experience?

I ask this since I plan to participate in the 2016 Vierdaagsefesteen. I am also curious to ask those who have participated how is the foreign award for it worn?

This award is not listed as authorized in chart D-1 of AR 600–8–22, therefore cannot be worn on the Army uniform.

It actually is authorized for wear in accordance with 600-8-22 appendix E (listed as Holland Four Day Event Cross). But you still have to go through the appropriate approval process and have it added to your OMPF. It must be worn on the left side (as a full size medal or a ribbon). The ribbons are nearly impossible to find in US size. I found a company that sold them in Sweden at 9 Euro a pop, but their website doesn't seem to work anymore. I only got one and I am trying to be very careful with it until I find another source. If I ever do, I will let you know.

Good Success on your march! It is an experience like none other that I can think of. Bring some extra unit patches to trade with the other military units. The final day is AMAZING! People will line the route for the last 20KM handing out Gladiolus flowers.

Just participated this year. Great event and great experience if you ever get the chance (realizing I am bumping an old thread). The award is authorized for wear on the ribbon rack of your uniform, and in medal and miniature medal form on dress uniforms (though it may be a difficult time finding the mini medals and ribbons).

It’s one of the few awards outside those you receive for direct combat action/gallantry that you’ll truly feel you earned. Hell of an experience.

I have not found the measurements for wear of the medal on the dress uniform. Any references out there?

I participated as a member of the 1979 21st Support Command Nijmegen March Team which came in first overall. I was on my way out of the Army at that time and the wearing of the patch or the ribbon was in somewhat of a gray area of authorization at that time. I didn’t care, I earned that patch, ribbon, and medal and I wore them. My Company and Battalion Commanders told me if anyone had an issue with it, to tell them to talk to both of them about it. Lol
