Have you ever read Robert Heinlein's speech on the pragmatics of patriotism?

This actually starts part-way through a speech given a little over 40 years ago, but I think much of what it says applies almost as much today as it did then.

Be sure to read all the way to the end -- I'd like to know what you think about Heinlein's assessment of the tramp.

A very good statement about the fortunes of serving our country nation for any one in the military and how poorly they are treated as far as pay and parity between military and civilian sector employment.
