Yes, when I was a cadet at West Point in the late 1970's , we received formal instruction in proper exercise techniques for freestanding exercises such as the military conditioning drills, on nautilus equipment, and other equipment sets.
At the VA I have received formal instruction on physical therapy exercises for my lower back recovery.

Were you into weight training at West Point, Colonel??? We didn't touch weights in the Marines but did have to run 3 miles in less than 18 minutes and do 100 setups, 100 pushups, 10 pullups and lots of stretching using our weapons as an exercise tool...

Sgt Tom Cunnally - Yes, I was. Weight training was part of the basic curriculum at West Point in the days I was a cadet. Academics, drill and ceremonies including parades for the public each weekend, sports, military training, etc for just under 4 years - July 3, 1976 to May 28, 1980.

LTC Stephen F. - I am looking into getting an advanced exercise bike for my home gym Colonel.... I am going to the Pro Form Shop tomorrow to check out their Tour De France Exercise Bike...It has a computer display that simulates biking in the Tour de France as well as monitor your heart rate (BPM) calories burnt and etc...I checked out the new Soul Cycle Bike but it very expensive (@$3,000) the Pro Form Bike is @$2000.00..

Have you heard of Soul Cycle?? It is a new fitness movement in NYC, Chicago, Los Angeles, & Boston & I visited a Soul Cycle studio last week. It is similar to spinning but the bikes are much more advanced and you listen to music in a candle lit room for an hour. You will burn twice or three times the number of calories than running.

Yes I worked for 24 Hr Fitness for one year. But didn't like working there so decided to be a Fitness Trainer at Gold's Gym. I was there for 10 yrs. Most of my clients were either "Muscleheads" or "Gym Rats" and really into steroids so I quit. I got a Home Gym and my only client is my 7 year old grandson I have a Fitbit for tracking just about everything you need to know about working out & it is a great motivator.

But because the winters are so severe in MA & I can't run in the snow and ice, I am thinking about getting an exercise bike for my Home Gym and like the Super Cycle Bike and Pro Forma Tour de France exercise bike. I believe in doing lots of cardio exercise each week in addition to weight training. I try to follow the "Green Diet" which is basically green fruits and veggies with no diary or meat products.. But it is cruel and unusual punishment so I cheat once in a while and have a pizza.
