I had a DS whose name tape was upside down and no one said anything. After a formation I went up with a battle buddy, outside of platoon ears and said (at parade rest) "Drill Sergeant; I didn't know if anyone pointed out, but your name tape is upside down." He bellowed to the rest of the platoon "WHO THE F-- SAW MY NAME TAPE AND DIDNT SAY SH--". I stood at parade rest watching a lot of collective push-ups. Only time I ever had a DS use the words "Carry on, Private." with any kind of gratitude. Got all tingly inside.

SFC Rick Brooks - It's been awhile, but I thought in a situation like this you addressed an NCO while at parade rest and an officer while at attention. I could be wrong though and I'm too lazy right now to look it up. LOL

SPC Chris Ison - Generals are indeed supposed to wear US on both lapels. What Gen Powell said was dead-on accurate, they are "generalists".

Is this right forum to admit when I was a PFC/SPC I used to walk around, ate up with hands in my pockets just to make the NCOs go ballistic? Fond memories.

I was medevac to Vietnam after the plane crash call my injuries were bad burns on my head. Part of my recovery included a letter from my doctor saying I did not need to wear a hat. Full uniform going to work every day never wearing a hat indoors or outdoors for over a year. I came to enjoy all the people going ballistic when they saw me for the first time.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - I’ve been retired since 2005 but true, I also learned to keep any weaknesses I was aware of and work with those around me whom I trusted to get stronger. Thank for your perspective. After retirement I became a HS teacher. Believe it or not, the military trained me for this new career. It wasn’t about being tough on them, it was more like we could not be friends but I will be friendly.

Yea. But it's more like " Psst. SGT your, your boot lace." And then I stick em with a thumbs up.

They need positive reinforcement too.

CSM Charles Hayden - I was "assigned" a few of those, as a Cpl. Many times as a matter of fact, my CO with TOP Shirt present would call me in, introduce me and let the butter bar know his "JOB" from this point fwd was to "LISTEN/LEARN" and any questions were to be addressed in PRIVATE. Some of the best BB I ever had the pleasure of working WITH... and THE best CO/1SG I ever had.

as the PSNCO SFC at TACOM - anyone that came into the office had to go thru me - so one day this Butter Bar came into the office raising hell - when i asked about his problem he just kept it up so I told him "Sir I don't know if I should salute you or burp you" boy did ever come unglued until a Full Bull taped him on the shoulder and told the SGT is right not get the hell back to your office - never seen the BB again -

SGT Louise Hawthorne - That is funny. We had a Butterbar tapping on a Abrams looking for soft spots in the Armor with a hammer chalking such socalled weaked spots. He was discovered by 3 Company Commanders. This LT loved trying to give Article 15s over bullshit, so he got set up. Got set up again come inventory and layouts.

The best one for them was to drill and epoxy a schrader valve in the road wheels and have them check and inflate them to 225 cold. followed by visually checking the grease level in the track tension ram by unscrewing the view cap bolt. its located under that grease zerk
