If this is a new toy that substitutes for real human interaction and wastes more tax money, then I am against it. If this is used to connect to veterans seeking medical advice from home, then it could save veterans a lot of heartache. I am glad that the VA is getting creative.

It may be ok for a quick follow up. But how would they properly evaluate a patient? They can't listen to you heart, lungs, check your ears, ect. I prefer seeing a Doctor in person, face to face.

I attended this summit and was impressed by the current state of telehealth, the corporate partners who were also there (Optum, Phillips, WalMart, TMobile, Verizon, and many others) and where it's all going. I think home care is going to be a major step forward for many vets who just don't want to leave their home to get the care they need. I'm happy to see that VA is much farther along than I appreciated on this front https://www.telehealth.va.gov/

I have done this about 4 times and it works well we can not seem to keep a doctor in are office at the va clinic but I have a nurse in the room while talking to the doctor

I would like to telehealth from my home because I think it would benefit me and other veterans to get more out of their health care. It more convenient for some that have to travel long distances and how the cost of travel keeps going up Just like everything else

Never knew this was an option! If I could meet with a Rhumatologist to get a refill on my Embril instead of paying for a ride for a 30 second appointment from Palm Harbor to Bay Pines. I usually live in Extra pain because I cannot afford the extra expense to get there and Dr. Fink will not refill without a visit. Can I get an online appointment to get this done? It would be a life saver literally.

For me the system works. I've had my last two checkups on Telehealth with the doctor I've been for years. Maybe that is the key, meet and relate in person before going remote. For the system to work both sides have to be open to the process and be aware of its limitations. For sure, the doctor has to be able to reach out and make the connection on the screen.

I have been on Telehealth and really liked it. Talk on the computer, didn't even have to leave my home but still saw my provider; convenient! I wish it was available everywhere, no matter how close you are to the VA!

Yes, I have. VA Mather and McClellan, Sacramento, Ca is rolling it out now. Every other appointment for me is face to face and then VA Telehealth/Virtual Care. My choice. This is a rather large boon for those veterans living a long distance from facility care.

I have frequent appointments at the VA Puget Sound Hospital in Seattle which is a considerable distance from my home. Many of my appointments could be done via video. That would save the VA, my health care providers, and I a lot of time and expense.

I have. It is a great thing but... There is a problem area of having to exercise [almost] communications protocol - you can speak over each other due to the time delay from the comm system. Also, there is a missing element of being there - certain aspects of non-verbal communication. Absent not having the person on hand - area responsibilities of coverage, practical limits - it is better than nothing. (Not to disparage it - we all have had the 10lbs in a 2lbs bag experience AKA the Widows Mite.)
