On one deployment when everyone was getting mail, there were two or three that got nothing. I used to drag them into the studio with me so they could share in my journey of watching my son grow up on tape. We shared a few laughs and had a great time. I think it's important we write to those men and women overseas deployed - they need to know someone cares about them and what they're doing. If you would like to submit a few kind words go here - http://bit.ly/letters2soldiers and I will mail your messages for you free of charge.

I can tell you two incidents of sending care packages thru treats for troops. I meet a Cpt and we became pen pals. We wrote for almost a year. His wife and parents invited me as a surprize to his home coming. During that year i became friends to his wife. I sent his wife baby clothing when baby was born and visited and collected other stuff while he was overseas fighting. I helped her with documents after the baby arrived. It was nice to surprize him and meet in person.

The second one was a female marine and we are best friends now. She a single mom with two children. We still send her children gifts for special occasions. My mom made her son a crocheted baby blanket. Her dad passed away we sent her a tree which ger family planted at their home. She was stationed in Japan and on leave to get ger son in US. She was on a military space A abd someone stoled her purse and ticket. I was able to get her Help thru the USO headquarters in Ohare airport. Tgey helped replace ticket, food, place to sleep for free.
My biggest complaint was i sent over 50 care packages to any soldier and only three sent thank you and got more packages each month. Enought for themselves in a box inside a larger one to share with platoon.

I loved doing it. During desert storm part of unit deployed but my job was a MEPS Guidance Counselor and that was important position to clear documents for enlistments thru MEPS. I was good at my job, no one ever returned saying i lied to them. Recruiters hated us because we turned recruits away not qualified.

I've written several over the years. Most often, those I know but I've sent several in the "Dear soldier" route.
