Most the Military people understood the concept of teamwork, they were always on time for work and would do things because they needed to be done and didn't complain. I have had a few civilians thought that never seemed to grasp the concept of what is expected when You take a job. Most those moved on themselves, some that didn't had to be terminated. One individual told Me (after a very poor working History) when I fired Him, He said "You can't do that to Me" I replied " I guess I can, I just did now get off the property and don't come back or I'll call the Police and have You removed" Unlike some in Management I didn't detail others to do the terminations, I did it Myself, If You don't have the backbone to face them Yourselves then maybe You shouldn't be the Manager in the first place is the way I saw it. That is not a task that should be delegated to another.

To address Your original question, In terms of Their lack of understanding, one of My quotes was " The Elevator doesn't reach the top Floor ! " or as prompted in some cases, " What We have here is a failure to Communicate." (to quote a line from Paul Newman movie, cool Hand Luke ) I expect Humans to make mistakes, that what they do but there are limits and some go way beyond those limits. I feel overall usually good performance does count but usually the screw ups are pretty consistent and its a repeat pattern.
