Have you heard of Anzac Day?

Today, April 25th, 2015 is the 100th anniversary of Australian and New Zealand forces joining together in the Gallipoli campaign in WWI. It is a commemoration day very similar to the US Veteran's or Memorial Day. I, as many of us, am fortunate to have served alongside Aussie and New Zealand forces both in deployed and in garrison. Take a moment today and remember their sacrifice.

On ANZAC Day, Australians remember all of their military dead and veterans. It is a VERY big deal Down Under.

Sure have. I was deployed with an Aussie Airman who would guard the Air Frames while we where on the tarmac at taking patients in Iraq. He educated me about ANZAC day and attended the ceremony on base. Plus it's on my birthday, so I will never forget it!

Gallipoli was Winston Churchill's debacle. I read his 3 book Autobiography and a few other biographies pertaining to him. Gallipoli was his greatest shame.

yes, it is sad to see how the British High Command used the ANZAC forces. There is also a good memorial in Sinai to commemorate them as well

I absolutely love the Aussies, with whom I have served, and the Kiwis. Gallipoli was such a miserable business, ill-conceived and insufficiently supported. (Sorry Winston, but that's how I see it.) Gallipoli was a real waste of first-class soldiers.
