If we continue to halfheartedly address the problem, the cost is too high for no gain. In that instance we should withdraw. However, if we are really committed to defeating ISIS or whatever term its being called this week, we need to commit the necessary resources to exterminating them. They aren't interested in a peaceful resolution so the only option is to completely and utterly exterminate them. The down side is it will require a ton of cash and a ton of troops. Usually we get the opportunity to have a break between wars... some time to reflect, lick our wounds, re-accumulate expended treasure and rearm, refit and retrain. This time it is a very long cycle and it is easy to understand why the country is weary of the fight. However, it is not a fight of our choosing. International Muslim extremism is not going to go away and as other have already said... we need to fight them there and not here. That said this cannot be a half hearted measure. If we are going to send troops, and they are troops not boots -- (Note: my last pair of combat boots failed BRM) -- then they should be sent with a clear objective, overwhelming fire power and a clear and unambiguous set of ROE. Anything less is a clear failure of leadership at all levels of command not just the CinC. General Dunsford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs has shown some spine in his congressional testimony last week . Lets see if he can keep it up and if deployments are ordered they are ordered with all of the pieces and parts necessary to insure a clear and unequivocal victory. ISIL is a self declared state, with a capitol, a financial system, and a flag. Congress needs to declare war on the ISIL, the campaign plans need to be issued and we need to get on with this. To much talk, to much rationalizing, to many restrictions and not enough action. Our military leaders know how to get this done -- let them do their job and the veterans of old will not have to worry so much about those who are about to become veterans.
