Has it gotten to the point on this site that we need to have an easily accessible blocking function for individuals?! Have you needed to block someone on here (don't be too crazy with specifics)?

I never had had this issue but as the site grows and sadly we do have scum who will stalk and harass in the DoD ranks. So it might be a good idea to add that button.

Sadly, I can see where the blocking feature is probably necessary --- particularly in cases where one member is clearly harassing another (yes, unfortunately, that does happen). However, I have also seen some recent instances where the blocking feature was being used simply to prevent other members from expressing their 'opposing' viewpoint on a particular topic. Finally, I truly hope that people who are using the blocking feature will reevaluate the need (or desire) to continue blocking a particular member from time to time.

I hope this site stays as professional as it has been. I cant bear the thought of this site falling into the facebook or twitter SOPs where everyone has a crazy non sense comment or just express themselves without even knowing what people are talking about. Thankfully here we dont have to know too many specifics about the individual so it keeps the site focused on topics that are relevant to our daily lives as AD, RC, NG or Veterans active or retired. But Im not against using the blocking feature on this site if the individual is a creep or just flat out out of his/her senses when answering to topics or dealing with members.

SFC Private RallyPoint Member I have never blocked someone on Rallypoint. I do understand the desire to do so. I have thought about using this feature. If you are feeling threatened or harassed I think you have every right to protect yourself through blocking someone. The way to do this is to run your cursor over their name and a small block with their name, picture, branch will appear. In the right hand bottom corner you will find the block button.

SFC Private RallyPoint Member Yes, I have had to because the individual was completely certifiable. What I found totally idiotic about the process was I had to go to his page to block him, which give me 10 points for viewing his page, and he got some points because his page was viewed!!! Somebody wasn't thinking when that feature was created. I hope the new blocking procedure that SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" refers to will correct that original RP web design flaw.

Never for me, Sarge. I've found everyone real respectful and welcoming. But I wonder, maybe, if males are being disrespectful to our female members. That would embarrass and anger me. Those individuals repeatedly harassing other members should be banned, not blocked, IMO.

I love the random down vote. I get a kick out of those. Good job calling them out. I did that once then the guy blocked me after I called him out on it. So he responded and made it where I couldn't. All I got to say if you got haters than you are doing something right.

SFC Private RallyPoint Member - As a User Admin, I have had to flag a few profiles due to misconduct and/or failure to follow the SOP of the forums. While we do our best to maintain a professional and respectful atmosphere, we do have some people that come on here and try to bully or harass other users. This sort of behavior isn't tolerated. Personally, I keep a close eye on the "hot button threads" to try and ensure that users are able to have a good back and forth on ideas but doing so in a respectful manner.

The advise I would give any user here is that if you see someone acting the fool, please feel free to reach out to the RallyPoint admins. Then your issue will address correctly and professionally while you get to enjoy and learn from the forums.

The best way to block a annoying person is don't respond, I wouldn't bother to contact Admin unless the individual is making threats.

No I have not blocked anyone yet and do not plan to nor do I down vote people. It is better to have a free forum where you treat others with respect. I have been blocked because I used fact filled rebuttal to an individuals post that was not in anyway demeaning. I believe it was the the Satanic statue in detroit post. The originator apparently did not like me using my freedom of speech and decided to block my from posting anymore. I just laughed about it on my post when I realized what he had done. Because personally it is not very professional and is counter productive to block someone just because you do not agree with their point of view.

Only once. That particular user lost his account later that day for being outrageously abusive. I don't block people, even when they annoy me, unless they cross a serious line.

Oh yes... Definitely... There was a pair of people actually (almost a tag team) who tended to get rather stalkery if engaged in debate and disagreed with. They would spend days going through every topic you'd ever been in and find every comment you'd ever posted just to down vote you, regardless of topic or how long ago it was.... Very fatal attraction'esque....

Yes I had to block someone who came after me in every post I went to and commented then he started a chain in one of those posts personally attacking me with nothing to do with the content of the posts and called me everything but what I am. I reported him to RP staff and they contacted him and I blocked him immediately.
