Programs exist to provide Veterans with academic credit for their Military training and experience. Has this program helped you, or let you down? How simple or difficult was the process?

Yes it has helped, I was in search of promotion points as a SGT (P) so I used the CLEP test for several match courses and bingo.....I believe it was a dozen credits just from a couple tests!

All AF formal training is award college credit through our regionally accredited college!

I took advantage of CLEP while on Active duty and it helped a little, but, aside from some PE credit for boot camp, most of my training didn't apply towards my degree.

I saw the same thing with many of my student-veterans when working at a university. Most of our training just doesn't translate to civilian education unless the students are in a technical program (and none of it can be considered upper-division).

I picked up 37 for my training from A school through C school they generally only take care of the general studies requirements though

Yes but very little. Credit for undergrad for SPO Course and OBC. Graduate 6 credits for CLOAC for Management.

I have an accredited Masters from the Naval War College so I guess that all counts.

I received alot of credits for my AIT. I was surprised how many people did not and di not know about these programs. It is up to us NCOs to make sure the younger soldiers understand these programs are out there.

Between CLEP, DSST, MOS School, Boot Camp, and my JST (Joint Service Transcript), I was at 130~ Credits. I was 9 Upper Credits away from my B/S (completed my A/S).

I was able to transfer a total of 26 hours from BMT, Tech school and FTD's. Additionally, my scores on my Foreign Language Proficiency (DLPT) exam, translated into having my foreign language requirement in the degree program I am taking being waived.

With the navy nuke program, 6 CLEPs, and $300 (interest free loans from the government) we got associate degrees from the university of NY.

I received .75 credits in physical education and was waived from the required physical fitness courses.
I could have received more if I went to a less reputable college - but my school, like me, values actual education. That is why I chose the school that I did.
You would not receive "experience credits" if you volunteered your services at the local orphanage - why would those same experiences count for credit just because they were earned in the military?

I'm not that liberal...

Here are some options that I researched some time back.

Most on-line courses through Defense Acquisition University are undergraduate equivalent. American Military University has a program that takes some of those credits into a degree program.

The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) has several program worth exploring:

1. Experiential Credit Options - http://www.umuc.edu/undergrad/creditoptions/
2. Get Transfer Credit for Your Military Education and Training - http://www.umuc.edu/active-duty-military/transfer-credits/military-education.cfm
3. Credit by Examination - https://www.umuc.edu/students/support/exams/creditbyexam.cfm

For anyone who completed ILE/CGSC you may receive up to 15 credits (5 classes) towards a Master of Science in Administration. I am currently enrolled in that program.

I'm not sure if it is related to the program posted, but I did have credits from my Captain's Career Course apply to my Master's degree. I got 12 credits towards the degree for the completion of the course.

Webster University gave me graduate credit for intermediate and senior PME. All I had to do was provide certificate of completion from USAF.

I think most colleges that cater to active duty and vets would do the same.

Central Texas College gave me 27 SH for my military experience toward my AGS degree. University of Louisville gave me 48 SH toward my Bachelor of Science in Occupational Training and Development back in 2005. I had to do the legwork of researching all the military courses, correspondence courses and positions held from my AARTS transcript to get it. Webster gave me no credits when I earned my MA in Human Resources Development, but I graduated with 195 credits.
