Have you seen this DHS video about the refugee screening and vetting process?

I just received an email from the White House from the DHS Director about the vetting of refugees with the following text.
"Since the attacks in Paris, many have asked about our process for admitting Syrian refugees into this country.
I understand the anxiety that many Americans are feeling right now. And as Secretary of Homeland Security, I share with President Obama the top priority of keeping the American people safe. So let me be clear about what this process of vetting and resettling refugees looks like.
It's important to remember, we're focused on admitting the most vulnerable Syrians -- this means mostly women, children and families. Second, anyone who applies for and is approved for refugee status in the United States, including Syrians, must first go through a rigorous security screening process."

Watching the video improved my view of the process from complete distrust to qualified trust. I was very interested to see that the standard line of women and children was modified to women and children and families and the images in both cartoon form and video showed many young men who appeared to be husbands.
While I do not completely trust the administration to follow through on this issue I think there are sufficient safeguards to minimize the chance that terrorists or assassins would make it through the process.

No. This doesn't help. I stopped watching the video at the point where they said "biometric data will be cross checked..." What, exactly, is that going to accomplish? The issue that was mentioned by the FBI, and correct me if I am wrong, is that we do *not* have access to the database that would have their info, or simply such a database doesn't exist. It's also a lot like conducting a criminal investigation... if the fingerprints/data are previously unknown, there will be no record to find. Much like that of a first time criminal.

I would have liked to hear that they are using state of the art facial recognition software to match refugees against a database of known enemy troop photographs (aerial, news, etc). Instead, they are basically puling the refuges credit ratings and running a NCIC criminal background check on them. If you come from a village where all the documentation was written and the records have long since been destroyed by a war, then there's nothing for them to find. The process as described might just prevent a former Gitmo prisoner, from entering the US as a refugee. However, I don't see how it could possibly identify a single current or former ISIS soldier. That is, unless we've been able to hack into the highly accurate IS, ISIS, ISIL, and Al Qaeda's personnel databases and gained access to all our enemy's biometric data.

23,000 referred but only 2,000 found safe to admit into the U.S. Let's, see, let me do the math...2 guzinta 12 is 6; 3 guzinta 6 is 2; forty'-leven guzinta thirty-twelve, uh...only [login to see] % of the refugees were safe to merit admittance? 99.01+% the U.N. referred were disqualified???

I haven't seen it but that was never my issue with this. I don't want the government to pay for it, if private groups pay let's bring them in.
