It&#39;s certainly not the end-all-be-all, but it works well as a general indicator of how much the candidate wanted to refine their skills and/or what their skill set might be capable of accomplishing. As a civilian, and someone without a masters degree, I can&#39;t really speak to the fact that degrees + rank are synonymous. But the function of &quot;he has his masters&quot; when looking at a candidate might not be that different from recognizing a Chief Petty Officer rate when meeting someone for the first time in the Navy. You don&#39;t know them, or what they&#39;ve done, but you know whatever it is, they&#39;re recognized for it (by the DoD or an educational institution).
