Just revising a question I posted yesterday. Are there any manuals other than the ITAS manual and the old Infantry Weapon's Company manual, that are must haves in preparation for serving as a PSG in an IBCT D CO?

Its common sense. In the defense, your crew served weapons are positioned to provide interlocking fires in support of small arms coverage. In the offensive, crew served or heavy infantry weapons support the infantry moving forward. The Platoon Sergeant, is positioned to the rear in the offense where he can assist his Leader during the heat of battle making sure his requests are implimited. In the defense the Platoon Sergeant is close to his Platoon Leader to provide guidance. KISS always works after the shit hits the fan.

Ok. Seems similar to the tactics with Strykers. I don't have experience with the ITAS so training guys on the mounted and dismounted employment of it is going to be interesting.

The only difference with mounted Infantry is the vehicle. Most important is dismounting fast speed and taking cover, then deciding the next moves. Dismounted Infantry's objective is surprise, speed and violance of action. The same principles SOF Units employ. The vehicles take up tactical positions and support the troops on the ground with heavy firepower. The vehicle is also a QRF when needed where the unit engages a superior force. My point is that armored tactics have not change in over 80 years. What has changed are the vehicles and weaponry. Today you have better mobility, better armor, more lethal weapons and a strong chain of command. There is no manual that illustrates a tactic for every situation. Your TTPs and tactical doctrine drives the manner of deployment. Last point is the manuals are nothing but a guide. The best plan will change in the first few seconds of a battle. Train your Soldiers the basics, keep it simple and when the shit does hit the fan, your troops will perform their mussle memory and do what Soldiers do in combat; Shoot move & communicate. I once ran a mechanized Infantry Squad and a Platoon. I trained my troops when I was a Squad leader and trained my Squad Leaders when I was a Platoon Sergeant. You want to be the best Platoon Sergeant on earth.
