Outsode there? Fairly sparse. On here? Modest. There are a few chem units, but I imagine that it won't be too different from the Corps (aside from the esprit de corps and discipline differences). There's always at least one 74D in every unit/BN but there's not always an actual 74A in every unit/BN, any MOS (including 74s) that takes the 2-4 week CBRN course can then be assigned as the CBRN Room NCO or CBRN Officer (ChemO), you can't bee on additional duty as CBRN unless you've taken the course..... Now for your question, CBRN and EOD have now been combined under the 20th CBRNE Command (with "E" being Explosives or EOD - don't be confused if somebody says cbrne but a 74D is always CBRN and an 89D will always be EOD they are not both called "CBRNE" just the Command). Which means Chemical or CBRNE units now have both Chem and EOD Tech guys, unlike before where Chem Companies/units are all CBRN guys and EOD Companies/units are all techs. What that means for you if you get in a CBRNE unit is that now you have a chance to with with EOD side by side and cross train on everything..... Look up "20th CBRNE Command" SGT Ej P. You probably won’t enjoy your time as a 74D unless you are on a CRD/CDD, in ranger regiment, or CAG support. To my understanding this far, these are the only places you’ll have the opportunity to actually do your job and also be able to learn other “cool” things outside of the basic CBRN duties and you will also be eligible to attend schools like sere-C. Having airborne will greatly increase your chances of going to a Group and therefore giving you the opportunity to possibly join a CRD/CDD. Very boring. You'll be cleaning pro masks and running the gas chamber. Other than that you can expect to do everything the grunts do in the unit. We have 74Ds all over the place. We have them in CBRN units, on staff in various organizations, and we have them in detachments. The 74 CMF is not as close as it should be and that is due to the fact that 74s do not talk to one another and comes from the mindset that some feel they are better than others. I have come on contact with 74s that have zero contact with other 74s. The lack of understanding of what other CBRN elements can do makes a 74 useless as an advisor to any Command team. If you want me to go into greater detail just let me know. I can also explain the importance of you keeping in touch with your Marine Corp CBRN Brothers.
