An epic military parade earlier this month showed off some of the Chinese military's new toys, unveiling heavy vehicles in maritime camouflage as the country's island-building in the South China Sea sits in US military planners' minds.

So how does China stack up to other world powers when it comes to aircraft carriers, one of the biggest factors in air and sea dominance?

China may have the biggest army, but it is far behind in other aspects.

They may have the big deck but they are not as proficient as we are when it comes to air operations.

Very comparable to everyone except the US (which is honestly expected). I don't expect anyone to match the US sea power in the near future if ever.

I just have to point this out.

If China ever really causes us more than a paper cut, how long do you think their "few" Aircraft carriers would remain floating. Minutes, Hours, Days? I'd say weeks, but I'm thinking "worst case" we would just swim a couple seals and plant shaped charges and watch all of them sink at the same time and post it to Youtube like some huge joke.

SSG Norman Lihou Left out of the article is the fact that the only carrier-capable jet they have can NOT launch with any more weight than a fuel load and so...the whole thing is basically worthless.

Thank you for this. Most interesting. Sadly, although we may have a significant advantage in hardware, our economy is seriously lacking in the resources to support sustained operations. For example, just how many of our magnificent aircraft carriers are "parked"?
