Hero or Zero: what plea deal do you suppose the US DOJ will offer Snowden?

Snowden told the BBC that he'd "volunteered to go to prison with the government many times," but had not received a formal plea-deal offer.

He said that "so far they've said they won't torture me, which is a start, I think. But we haven't gotten much further than that." In an interview broadcast Monday on the BBC's "Panorama" program, Snowden said he and his lawyers were waiting for U.S. officials "to call us back." Earlier this year, former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said a plea deal with Snowden was a possibility.

My problem with Snowden is not what he did. It's that he ran.

Cowards run.

What he did was Illegal. Absolutely illegal. There is no doubt about that. But illegal doesn't necessarily mean wrong. I'm willing to listen to the right v. wrong arguments of disseminating the information a la corrupt government. But when he ran, he closed that door.

Compare him to Manning. Manning didn't run. Manning stood trial. Manning was not a coward. Say whatever you will about manning and the crimes he committed, he didn't run. He stood before the man, and accepted his punishment.

Snowden didn't. Snowden not only said he didn't trust the American government, but the American Justice system, but also the American People to get this right if he stood trial. Screw him.

I suspect there won't be anything from DoJ until after next November. It would be a political circus that would have unpredictable result so I don't expect anything anytime soon. Oh, the grist for the mill! Comparing him to Hillary would be an obvious one. Trump telling him to build his own cell would be an example of what we'd see on late night TV.
