Oh I love the second one!! I'll have to take pictures of the ones I have at home. My mom quilts like there is no tomorrow. I have a blue and yellow log cabin that I had to do for my homemaking class and she hand quilted it for me. (she hand quilts all of her quilts). I also have a wall hanging that I pieced together by hand before I left for basic training and she put the batting and backing on it and quilted that too. She sent me my wedding ring quilt, a quilt she made when I was in highschool and it has pieces of fabric that she used from shirts she made for us as well. She sent me a few others too. And now that I have a sewing machine of my own I can start making my own quilts. I am currently working on a bear claw quilt with pinks and greens. I got the fabric when I was in Monterey CA. I had to walk miles to get it.

Here's another one from back in the day. I did a front and back for a wedding. The front is a "Yellow brick road and the back is one of my own design. An embroidered patch at the bottom lists the wedding date and I think a Monogram for the couple.

I have presented over 30 quilts of valor which I have made. I am privileged to do so as I, myself, have also been awarded one which I treasure. I have been told by some veterans that these quilts meAn more to them than any military awards they earned. One pictured below to a Navy CEC who recently died from service connected illnesses and blindness.

My Mom has made quilts for my brother and I when we were deployed. She also used to make military lap quilts for the Veterans hospital in Fayetteville, NC and for Ft Bragg hospital. It was such a nice experience to give those lap quilts every year at the holidays. We moved to Maryland from Bragg 2 years ago when I retired, We have not found a group in Maryland for her to participate in to donate up here. It is always nice to help a fellow Veteran.

This isn't a quilt but up in Rochester New York there is a company called " Lap Robes for Veterans". Nancy Van Appledorn is the contact person. They just had the News station out there to show there 10,000 th robe to be given. By the way they only except donations to buy materials and they are a Non Profit.

Two quilter friends and I just presented Quilts of Valor to the 25 members of our local Masonic Lodge who are Veterans.We did this at a dinner for them on Veteran's Day last month. Michelle, I am an OEF/OIF vet. I saw your beautiful quilt, displaying the the map of the world. I looked at it a few times to see what it was to determine what it was about that quilt that caught my attention. It was very cute, comforting, warm, seemed to bring the world together again, instead of displaying it so far apart. Sometimes, that’s what we need, a reminder that our world’s can and have been put back together. Your quilt reminded me of my journey and the journey’s of many men and women in the profession of arms. It may sound drawn out and kind of emotional, but I wanted to let you know that I love your quilt and how it touched my heart.

Hello everyone,
Below is my quilt that I created shortly after my Art Therapy consult. I suffer with PTSD and I finally found my voice through art. The title of my quilt is Behind the Mask. As I shared my testimony, My friends presented me with a quilt of valor which bought me to tears (please see below).
My quilt has also recieved a national award and I got the chance to share it at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2019. I am most proud of my Quilt of Valor.

I was so excited to see this artical and I am so excited to see everybody's quilts.

I am a volunteer at Hospice of Yuma. We have a team that does a ceremony thanking hospice patients for their service (We Honor Veterans program). Present a Certificate, render a slow salute in uniform, present a lap quilt, sing a Mariah Carey song about 'The Hero in You'. IS this something the quilters might support?
