We are honored to welcome former Navy SEAL, Special Operations Chief Joost Janssen, to RallyPoint for a live Q&A. Joost has had an accomplished military career as a US Navy SEAL, with over twelve years of service. After several overseas deployments, he spent three years as a NSWC BUD/S Instructor. After the Navy, Joost contracted for five years as ‘Agency’ direct hire in support of counterterrorism related operations. Joost deployed and conducted operations in over 12 countries including; Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, Korea, Vietnam and the Philippines. After leaving Special Operations, Joost continued a career with GSGI as a Senior Tactical Advisor and Military Stunt Player.

About 'American Assassin':

AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.

Europe appears to be causing it'self harm by allowing Islamic immigration. It appears to be changing culture and growing a larger central government.
The cause of this FUBAR situation was the so called Arab Spring and the destruction of Libya using American assets.
We have been informed there are 1000 Islamic members on a watch list and female genital mutualation is increasing in these United States.
Do you have any thoughts on the above posted information? Can you write about these topics?
As a former active duty United States Marine (before standards where lowered to BS), I see the ideology of Islam as counter to our Constitution and culture.
Thank you for your interest in this matter. I look forward to any insight you can share. Also, if I am viewing wrongly what my gut tells me is the enemy, please share with me your views. So, I can understand more deeply.

Thank you for your service. I have a a few questions for you. First, just need a little clarity on this lingo laden sentence in your RP bio above. "After the Navy, Joost contracted for five years as ‘Agency’ direct hire in support of counterterrorism related operations". When they say 'Agency' do they mean the CIA? Also, what does "contracted" mean exactly? Why would it not be a salaried and "at will" position? If they meant CIA, I had read a little animosity towards CIA on another military website from Army Special Forces troops (in the area of trusting their assessment in the field), I never asked why then but I am curious if you ran across that working for the CIA?

1. How did you get in the business of doing military stunts?

2. Did the crew for "American Assassin" ever call upon you for your expertise as a Navy Seal when it came to certain operations or realism in the actual film?

What is it that kept you coming back for more?
I see a mix bag of reason's from my experience in combat arms and people I have met.
I also have a psychology back round so understanding what motivates people is of interest to me.
I also think its of utmost importance for a clinician to understand the different motives to be able to provide the best care.

Do you think that showing tactics that we use on the big screen hurts our special operations or do you feel that it serves warning to those who would act to cause harm?

Hopefully the producers of this movie don't try the usual Hollywood crap to alter things to fit an inaccurate depiction, that all depend on them listening to advisers with actual Military/Seals background. Another Rambo film We don't need but one anchored in the real world of Special operations. I've seen some however that are excellent films of Military subjects, well researched and one that even required Army training for all of the actors so they would look and behave like soldiers. The Military advisers who were also depicted in that movie had major input. Not to put You on the spot with our new film employer but do You find Your input is good and the producers are listening ? People without the background tend to accept what they see as reality even though it isn't. I would guess with Your background Your concerns may be the same. In any event with that subject they should have plenty of material for an excellent movie.

Greeting Senior,
Reading the synopsis of the film, sounds like my kind of film. Hope to get to see it. I should know, but is it in theaters yet? If not, when will it be? I am not much of a movie goer, frankly am not able to afford the cost of tickets, parking, popcorn and the like and with my wife tagging along you can make that cost times 2! Hope it makes it to Netflix soon.
But, my real curiosity (I have 2 really) is storyline and presentation. Does the movie hold true to reality? Is it written in a real world way without embellishments to make the movie more exciting. During the Vietnam era I found real life plenty exciting enough, thank you very much! Our homecoming in 1970 was even more of an adventure for most all of us. By "my role in the new film" do you actually appear on screen or are you involved with the creative and advisory end of things. Does your comment "Joost continued a career with GSGI as a Senior Tactical Advisor and Military Stunt Player" refer to your part in the creation of this movie. I have always enjoyed "war" and "military" movies, especially "The Green Beret" (which I know was pretty far removed from reality) with John Wayne.
However, the movies starting with WWII and Korea (made in the wos and 50s) then later on to the plethora of Vietnam movies. After watching a Vietnam movie I must admit that I have to ask myself "Why in the fuck am I watching this? - Didn't I get enough already," after all I get to return to Korea several nights a week!
I am always very curious when an SOC or SOF guy with 10, 12 or more year, especially a senior NCO, such as yourself, elects to not remain for the few more years to get your 20 years.
During Vietnam they tried out what they called (in the Army anyway) a short-retirement at 10 years.
In any event welcome aboard and thank you for taking up where we old guys left off.
