Higher insurance premiums for smokers.

Most medical insurance plans base your coverage on health status and income, with the big push from the Military to create a healthier force should TRICARE charge higher premiums for smokers? Civilian policies base their coverage on such thing should the military do the same as a deterrent?

Since there are no TriCare premiums for AD and dependants I am assuming that you are talking about retirees. I don't see a problem with it as everyone knows how bad smoking is for you and makes the choice to smoke/dip/chew. It would need to be for all tobacco use and not just smoking.

anyone thought about using a total fitness approach? The more physically fit the lower the premiums....lower self-induced (smoking) risks the lower the costs?

I remember my brother telling me he had to have a physical for one of his health insurance policies.....the strong survive?

smokers are an easy target. should obese people pay more? how about people who eat a lot of salt or fatty foods? how about those people who drink tons of sugary sodas? How about people who get lots of speeding tickets? Should military (guard and reserves) pay more than civilians?
