I told him he did not have to answer but why do you have a fine to pay. He said for assault. Given it was an entry level position, HR sent over every application. In the course of the review process, there were a couple, one who checked the box of being a felon and the other who didn't check it at all. One was for financial fraud and the other was for as he states, "a small roach in the ashtray." Let's see, families and various government agencies send checks to their infirmed loved ones/beneficiaries, so not sure I want someone found guilty of financial fraud to have access to these checks. As for the "small roach", not sure how small since it was a felony charge and not a misdemeanor, but regardless, we shipped medicines out to veterans and given my staff needed to have access to patient files so they can confirm addresses for undelivered mail, it wouldn't have taken an industrious individual much time to begin trolling the files to see who has what meds being mailed. So, if the box was not on the application, these two jokers would be on our taxpayers rolls. So no, I am not a fan. BTW, in another position some years later, I hired an individual who was fired from a federal job. So I'm not opposed to someone rehabilitating and needing a hand up. But I need to know their background so that I can make a prudent decision. This last fella is still doing a bang up job as I saw him last week when I was in for an appointment. There's far too many people that have turned themselves around, got their head screwed on straight, ect that are prevented or overlooked from simple to mediocre jobs that they're capable of. All because they did something in a young age or weren't raised right.

The way I see it, our military used to take all those bad apples and give them a 2nd chance to make something of themself. And now, I believe we as a people in positions of authority should do the same thing.

Great and strong people don't kick the hurt ones while they're down. We help and train them up instead.
