How are we supposed to get promoted if ALC classes are filled?

I've been trying to get into ALC, because we all know that with the new STEP program in the Army, we need school before you can pin-on. Well for my MOS, all of the schools are filled up, with no chance of getting in until sometime next year. How are we supposed to get promoted and advance our careers if all of the slots in school are filled constantly by first come, first serve?

You should keep trying till it is an open slot, it was like that before your time, and we managed to get promoted, it is all about persistence

Wow that's a very tough question and I can certainly understand your frustration. I can only suggest you get a hold of your branch and continue to push the issue of trying to get in the first available school.

I would expect that with STEP there would be an order of merit list. Persons such as yourself would be given a seat before a non-promotable SGT who in turn would get a seat over a SPC(P). Ft. Carson is having an investigation due to SSG losing their rank through an admin reduction for not going to school. Maybe something from that will come out in the wash and OMLs will be put into place.

I am currently a Senior SGL at Fort Sill, Ok. We are getting an influx of added people and classes. What is your MOS? Also even if the classes are full someone will receive a deferment or will not show up. We are projected full classes every time but do not always get everyone. Have the schools NCO stay on top of ATTRS for any updates to class rosters. Hope this helps and let me know where you are needing school at.

Try getting on the wait list. I know for my mos it's hard with the new step program as well. However, you have a lot of people on the OML that don't meet the standards when their slot comes up I.e. Overweight, failing apft, etc. you can also try attending a national guard or mtt. They have open slots that your training NCO can try to reserve as well. It's tough but you got to stay motivated and exhaust all options. Don't give up as you are already ahead of the game trying to go before being promoted. Good luck to you

I am in the same boat a year after you posted this. I want to know all that goes into the order of the OML list. My buddy has 100 points less but got his slot already. We are both in our secondary zone, but I would have made points even in secondary zone all four months I've been promotable. It's super frustrating because obviously my leadership saw potential, but I won't be "promoted ahead of peers" if this school is holding me back. Hopefully I'll have a class date soon, but I'm right there with you until then.

So I have a question? How does this work for me.. my cutoff last month was 610 and I currently have 608... I'm 2 1/2 months into deployment and can't goto ALC. I'm pretty sure I will make cutoff next month but won't be able to get pinned bc were locked in and can't redeploy. Is there away around this,since I am deployed? I attached a pic that's say u can but COC is telling me it's not possible. Any advice wow be nice... Thanks to all who reply in advance...
