I been trying, since May, to get that issue squared away. For those who have either been to the board or sat on one, will that effect my board or will I be alright? How bad is not having promotion orders? 2018-11-29T01:32:24-05:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 4167488

I am heading to the e6 board on the 4th of dec but unfortunately when I pcsed to ft carson I misplaced my promotion orders (out of everything I can loose). I never had to present promotion orders to any board.
You have to be a SGT with TIG and TIS requirements met to appear before the board, they are aware of your rank.
Are you getting paid as an E-5?
If so, DFAS received orders and if you want to be a SSG you better be able to figure out how to obtain a copy you aren't ready to take care of Soldier's administrative needs. The board is mostly looking at your ERB and a few other documents you might have such as a bio. The only reason you need your promotion orders is because it is a requirement for the DFAS and DOD financial audits. As far as the board is concerned, you wouldn't be standing in front of them if you weren't really a Sergeant. This is why the yearly record review is so important. It allows you to ensure all of your personal and financial documents are in iPERMS so they can be in the ARB and, subsequently your ERB. If it's in iPERMS make sure it's on your ERB.

The ERB is not the "official" document that states everything. It is merely a snapshot or picture of your iPERMS file and your history in the military. The ARB/ ERB must match iPERMS. If it's not in iPERMS but it is on your ERB, remove it from your ERB. But if it is in iPERMS and not on your ERB, get it on your ERB. They keep an orders log book with the order number and can probably get you at least an order number. With that number you can begin your attempt to recreate the orders if they’ve been lost. Not the first time I’ve seen permanent orders lost from a personnel record. I had to recreate almost 10 years worth of documents because some records clerk at PERSCOM misfiled or lost them. You know people read these posts, right? Being professional is a way of life, especially as a NCO who leads and mentors younger/junior Soldiers. Please take my constructive criticism as a means of support and not negatively.

On to your question: I find it strange any non-centralized board would ask you for your “promotion orders”. Maybe they would like to see your “I love me book” if NCO’s even teach their Soldiers that tradition anymore. (Huge help when you are out and looking/searching for a civilian job- Plus everything is in one place.) Is the Board asking for other documents as well? If so, what other documents?
