Most would be appalled to know we are destined to stamp bottle caps for the rest of our lives. Being a project manager is stressful, but near perfect planning and execution was tremendously satisfying. I used TLPs, lots of recons, OPORDSs, coordination with supporting teams, rehearsals, and laying on the couch visualizing the event from top to bottom. While we do not think of them as such (at least not in my day), each drill, mission, exercise and deployment is in effect a project, a task within a larger project, or a part of a project portfolio. They even follow the basic PMI project lifecycle (Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitor/Control and Close Out). Leverage what you have learned, and take it to the next level.

Al Bedgood, EdS, CBM, PMP Response by MAJ Alvin B. made Nov 4 at 2015 2:27 PM 2015-11-04T14:27:07-05:00 2015-11-04T14:27:07-05:00 CPT Jack Durish 1087934

Project management is the child of the military and the civilian world is struggling to catch up. However, private industry is looking for people with civilian certifications such as PMP. They don't recognize military experience. Although if properly documented, military experience may be applied towards satisfying the practical applications requirements for those seeking a PMP certification.
