<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>The US Army, by itself, cannot compete with the Russian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Missile forces. The good news is, we fight as a joint force, and up until recently, we&#39;ve enjoyed air superiority against our adversaries. This enables very long-range fires from USAF bombers and fighters, and Naval aviation and cruise missiles. Today, especially against peer adversaries, we are not so sure we have the quality and quantity of air needed to ensure (theater-wide) air superiority. So our plans need to be more flexible and focused...to create the local areas of air superiority where the commander&#39;s priorities are highest.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>In any peer-to-peer or near peer battle, artillery is simply the lowest level of Mutually Assured Destruction. <br /><br />Given the speed and accuracy of counter-battery fires, the purpose of each side&#39;s artillery is to ensure that the other side won&#39;t use their artillery unless the target is worth losing the artillery unit involved.

After all they had observers (sometimes with the enemy side) at every war we&#39;ve had since WW2.<br />We use a Combined Arms approach. Until the battle kicks off against Russia we won&#39;t know all that much about what&#39;s the comparison.

So, remember, also, when &quot;practicing&quot; on the range some of the ordinance are for training use only, thus the outcome may not be what you expect. Col. Joe below has some good comments.

Let politicians do their job first. We have just been in a war since 9/11/2001. We need a break. Remember that war never benefits any nation (The Art of War, Sun Tzu). Look at NASA funding, where do you think it has gone to?
