How can I acquire a secondary MOS without actually having to reclassify?

Good evening I was wondering if there’s a way to acquire a secondary MOS without actually having to reclass I want to do so in order to have more doors open and more mobility as opportunities are presented

In the Guard I think it may be hard since the state funds it's personnel and slots and whatnot. Honestly, because I'm not NG I'd recommend giving your retention NCO a call. Maybe (s)he can help give you the most up to date guidance

You essentially have to create that opportunity by one of two options:
1, Submit an ETP to attend the new MOS-T school because you have a pending transfer to a position for that MOS, or.
2. Submit an ETP to transfer to that new MOS and demonstrate that you have a future reservation for that MOS-T school.
Most states offer this as a retention incentive, you can get the transfer and school guaranteed with your extension.

My guard experience is 20 years old but it wasn't uncommon for a line unit to train people in support jobs, get them MOSQ and swap them back to the line.

If you're changing units you will likely need to change units.

Its called a Civilian Acquired Skill packet, that's the only way you can do it. I have done a couple, but mainly in the Medical Field because they are already have the required certifications which allows them to be granted that MOS. Mainly 68W's, from my experience.

Back in the day, I held a SMOS and 2 AMOS's. All three acquired through OJT. I must say this was on an Army Post with about 200 SM's .

If you are National Guard, there is also the option to do an open vacancy packet. The positions are often posted on bulletin boards outside of the orderly rooms, or distributed to Soldiers via email periodically.

One way that I know of from the past was civilian acquired skills. an example would be License Practical Nurse, I have known people to get MOS as a Box Car Repairman, Train Engineer, Conductor, Rail Road Track Repair. The Army still has one or two Rail Road Units and the members of those units are usually employed by the rail road. Another is welder basically if you have a skilled trade with a tradesman paper work it can be evaluated to grant an MOS. Their was actually One MOS along time ago you could get by Army Correspondences Course Laundry and Bath Specialist. that was way back in the 1990's Talk to your training NCO and your Higher HQ Training NCO.
