How can I best use RallyPoint for career progression as an NCO?

Mostly I see random useless conversations about military board questions and people getting promoted. I swear when I accepted to join this it said something about expanding my career options or something like that. Seems to me that this is facebook for military.

This goes beyond what Facebook is doing. If all you are seeing is "useless conversations" then you aren't looking close enough. While I agree, not all of the conversations are as meaningful as others; we have had some great discussions and people have found this site to be really useful to expand their social network.

I only joined a few days ago and have found the site to be useful. I have received more information about dealing with VA then I could have with talking to the few people around me because most of the guys that answered my question have already jump thought the hoops and know where to point me.

Expanding career for a SSG.  Example:  there's about 10 or so discussions alone in the last week on the SFC Board.  If you were not selected I am sure there is some valuable information in those threads to expand your career.I don't think that is random or useless.You will also find many conversations on the #1 priority in the Army and that is SHARP.You will also find many discussions on mentorship, professional development, and transitioning advice.  All extremely valuable.And probably the MOST important, if you were ever not sure in your career you can find out here if a 2LT should salute a 1LT.

thanks for the comments i will take it all into account and really get into the nuts and bolts of this site. I am still a little skeptical but some of you have really heightened my interest.

I'm a younger soldier and since I am Guard I don't as much exposure as I would with my Active Duty brothers and sisters, which also includes the other branches of the military such as the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. I see this site as a great opportunity to learn from leadership from the cadre, veterans and the DoD contractors.

do so... then press search

you will find all sorts of threads that cover a wide range of topics that can very well answer questions you have or expose you to information or ways of doing business that you've never seen or heard of.
