Trying to locate award orders for the Humanitarian effort our unit did back in AUG-SEP2000. Apparently, we didn't get individual orders for the Humanitarian Award, but is there a way that I would be able to prove that I was there? I did the training (Basic Wildland Firefighting Course), have an award since we almost died there, and can prove I was in the unit for said operation. I have researched and it shows the Approved Operation for the time we were there off of HRC. However, it doesn't state the units.

Thoughts?

AR 600-8-22 Appendix C has the list of operations.
Paragraph 2-22 sub para 6.d.6 gives the process for having the award processed and entered for active duty Soldiers who did not receive orders and the documents to be submitted as proof. It basically states that the servicing personnel officer will base decision of the award on the presentation of the documents listed as evidence in the paragraph. So your S1 can enter the data.

Having a hard time getting things to cut and paste today.
(5) The HSM is categorized as a service medal and, as such, no orders are issued to announce its approval.
(6) Retroactive award of the HSM to Active Army Soldiers will be based on an administrative decision of the
servicing personnel officer. However, the burden of proof rests with each potentially eligible Soldier to furnish
appropriate source documents, per paragraph 2–22c(3) (a) through (e) above, to his or her personnel officer.
(7) Approved HSM will be posted to the ORB for officers and on the ERB for enlisted Soldiers.

Our unit did firefighting in Colorado I think, got nothing either, squad handshake was extent of it. It's part of the job. Just move on. Those that were there don't need to hear about it, those that weren't wouldn't understand anyway.

Outstanding, however, it's on my ERB from when I was a Private. There are no orders that were produced for us, since the regulation states no individual orders are given. I mean, if you get activated to go do a humanitarian duty, it's not really part of my job. Going to war and putting puts to face would be my job. Thanks much for the support.

If the unit received the award there will be a record of it at the department of the army. If you did not receive an award you were supposed to get. You can get with a former leader and have them recreate it. Officers are never truly retired. If they have a critical skillset or clearance they could be recalled at any time, health providing of course.

I would have thought that they would. Trying to go through my old unit, well BDE. I can't really get with my former leader, since they are out of the military and don't have any of their records.
