How can I get my RE 4 code from the NG reduced to an RE 3 so I can go back on AD? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-can-i-get-my-re-4-code-from-the-ng-reduced-to-an-re-3-so-i-can-go-back-on-ad

I have a RE 4 code and im trying to get back into the army. I know its rare but im trying for it. I had a honorable discharge from active duty after 6 years with no bad incidents. Afterwards I joined the infantry for national guard. While in for only 3 months I had some issues where I was living. I moved to another city and after a while thats when they cut me. Granted I should have made more calls to get it started, but i was salty about how national guard operated. And i was also young and dumb. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get this reduced to a RE 3 code? I know I messed up, but there has to be a work around. Im not a bad soldier. Your only recourse is to apply to the Army Discharge Review Board. You can get advice for this from the VA. Now let me tell you the bad news, they will only correct an RE code if that code is incorrect. In your case, from your vague description, my guess is that they discharged you for multiple AWOL's. Depending on the total number of AWOL's, you might be able to pull a waiver from the State TAG or NG Bureau. That wouldn't get you a waiver to go back into the Army or other Service. I had mine changed from a 4 to a 2 to a 3.

It would be based on your specific situation and you’d have to go through many regulations to have an argument. Also like others have said it’s based on equity and propriety. Idk your full situation but it never hurts to try

Also keep in mind that upgrading an re code doesn’t necessarily mean you can reenlist. I had my 4 upgraded to a 2 and wasn’t able to reenlist but then had it change to a 3 and I was A1C Chris Pointer Thu, 17 Jun 2021 19:18:53 -0400 2021-06-17T19:18:53-04:00 2021-06-15T13:13:11-04:00
