How can I get Option 4 with a 68W contract? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-can-i-get-option-4-with-a-68w-contract

Hey everyone,

I have searched on this site and others but cannot seem to find a clear answer. My goal is to enlist as a 68W with Option 4 (Airborne). I want to be as informed as possible before I meet with the recruiter, and I was wondering if it is possible to get airborne guaranteed in my contract before MEPS? I have seen some people say that airborne is something you ask for at MEPS and others have said you can get it from your recruiter. So, what is the verdict here? Also, before anyone mentions it, I am not interested in Option 40 (RASP). Maybe one day I'd like to volunteer for something like that, but it is definitely not my goal right now. My goal is to go in as a 68W and learn as much as I can, regardless of where I am stationed or if I get airborne. However, I have family that served in the 101st, and I would like to continue that tradition as a line medic if at all possible. Thank you everyone for your time and feedback. It's really that easy. And if they say no, stick to your guns and wait until they say yes. Although, I really don't see them telling you no. Also, the 101st isn't Airborne and hasn't been for decades. Going Airborne will most likely send you to a Airborne Unit for first assignment which the 101st is not. However to answer your question ask your recruiter for option 4 they will inform you if it’s open or not for MOS but recruiters do not control that. The Army will not bend over backwards because you WANT Airborne. Medic may be open without Airborne or another MOS may be open with Airborne they are not interchangeable. Talk to a Recruiter that’s only way it will happen or not happen. I have since spoken with a recruiter and been to MEPS. Unfortunately, it has been quite difficult to get the contract I want, but I am holding out until it becomes available. Now that I have passed MEPS it is just a waiting game, and for anyone else wanting 68W (especially with Option 4 or Option 40) be prepared to wait for it to become available.
