How can I take a more active role in reclassifying to a cyber warfare MOS?

I am an E-5 with 10 years in as an engineer in the national guard. I work in the IT world for my civilian job and I love it.
My biggest issue is not having a security clearance. My unit is trying to get one for me but it has been months and as far as I know I am waiting for a code to apply for my security clearance.
I feel like I am just waiting around and would like to take a more active role.

Regardless of your current clearance issues, have you located your local units that have 17Cs in them? In both the Reserves and NG, there are Army Cyber Protection Teams all undergoing training and reclassification. If you are a promising candidate, they may be able to assist. Have you looked at the voluntary transfer incentive program (VTIP) packet that needs to be put in for a reclassification? I'm pretty sure that from reading your geographic location, there are no Reserves Cyber unit near you but there may be a NG unit near you. You can also see about working with your retention NCO to shift units with a reclass, but may need to extend your contract. It is almost a year of school prior to any additional training for your actual Cyber role.

Well I believe a resourceful potential Cyber Warrior should be able to locate the information. A quick search showed a few older articles with a most recent current article being a few months ago when MOCYBER hosted a Cyber Summit at Jefferson Barracks ANG Base. I've found a few other references here and there. I can send you the information regarding the VTIP packet if you'd like, just link up with me for that. We just had a new soldier join my unit last weekend whose story said when his retention person asked him what it would take to stay in, he said he might stay if they could get him into some obscure cyber unit in Maryland. Yeah, we can be hard to find if you don't know where to look. 17Cs only exist in the USAR and NG in very specific units, otherwise you're looking for a 25D and 25B type slots. Your retention NCO may have a resource to help locate 17C slots to identify POCs at the units you're looking to join. I'll follow up again if I find some more later.

SSG (Join to see) - Thanks again for the help. There was a memo that was put out from my battalion looking for soldiers interested in joining cyber but the information wasn't put out to my unit. I only know about it because my squad leader happens to be part of headquarters for my unit and asked me if I was interested. So my unit retention NCO is working on getting my security clearance so that I can submit my packet to be apart of that program. I also have contacted someone who is at a cyber unit at Jefferson Barracks in the article you mentioned. I spoke with him in the past and hope that he will be able to assist me into getting into cyber.
Thanks again for all of your help.

I'd be glad to look over your packet if you'd like. It is tough competition, and if you're not in a position where you've acquired a lot of skills and certifications, then you have to beef up your packet to compete with those who do. I've had multiple people in my CoC reviewing my packet multiple times to make sure we're not kicked back for stupid stuff in incomplete packets.

Thanks for your help. I am about to be out of town for the weekend but I will definitely be interested in taking you up on your offer in the future.
Thanks again!

I have been moving dirt as an engineer for 10 years and would like to align my civilian career which is also something I love with my military career. I do not feel like I have to stay in the Army or the guard but I do have ~3 years left in my contract.
I am just tired of waiting around and would like to take a more active approach.
Thanks!
