You will probably be told to wait for your ETS because the paperwork is difficult with no guarantee that you will be approved. The down side is that requires getting it signed off by the first General in your chain of command. If you get that, just see an Army Reserve recruiter. Both are part of the Reserve Component, though the Guard has it's additional State mission. Your Chain of Command will need to approve the DD Form 368 too. I have heard this takes time so expect to wait for a while. Best bet to call your USAR Recruiter to find out the exact procedures needed to be released from the National Guard component and then enlist in to the USAR component. He/she will be up on the regulations. I know a few USAR Recruiters I can ask on Tuesday if you need me to since I'm not a recruiter but work within a RCTG BN. The easiest way is to request to go into the IRR. Then contact a local USAR Career Counselor to sign you too a unit. Call me with questions. I do it all the time.
