How can you obtain a DD 214 after you are discharged? Does anyone know the process?

I was not given one when I got out of the Reserves.

You don't get a DD214 when you separate the Reserves. You get one when you are discharged from any period of active duty 90 days or greater. I have two DD214s for my time in the NG and none when I was separated.

Something new. when My farther was in the Naval reserves, every time he transferred to a new area, he received a DD-214 from the last post. I received his records and he has 4 different DD-214's. One from each area, plus the one from active duty.

SP5 Dennis Dorsey each of those 214s is for a period of service on active duty. You can be in the Reserves and be on active duty. Whether it's Active Reserve like AGR, activated for training like Basic and AIT, or activated for a deployment or mobilization, any time spent in an active status over 90 days get a 214. When you look at your father's 214 you'll see in the boxes it says Active start, active end, and net active service

As stated in another post you don't warrant a DD-214 unless you were active duty. The form is called the Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. I have several from when I was in the National Guard because I was active duty in the National Guard.
Traditional Reservists, those that served their entire contract without an activation, will not have received a DD-214 except for the one they received at the completion of their initial military training (boot camp, basic training, job school). In the absence of a federal activation, the only discharge paperwork these troops will receive is a DD-256 – Honorable Discharge Certificate.

You do not get a DD 214 from the Reserves. You get Discharge orders that should tell you what your Discharge type is. If you do not have your Discharge Orders (which would be very odd), you can submit a request to your old unit (depending on how long you've been out) or submit a request to the National Archives.
