Response by LTC Stephan Porter made Oct 16 at 2018 11:56 AM 2018-10-16T11:56:31-04:00 2018-10-16T11:56:31-04:00 MAJ Hugh Blanchard 4064063

Well, let me think. In one of my later positions, my team was responsible for training 350 intelligence personnel in a light infantry division. Some of that training had to be conducted at distant locations, so we managed a multi-million dollar annual budget, in our case the largest such budget in the U.S. Army, that we employed to pay for their travel, lodging and other expenses when they deployed on TDY to take that training. In cooperation with other units, we also had to manage the assignments of about 120 company-grade intelligence officers in our local area so that they would receive the critical skill development positions they needed to compete for promotions and further their career enhancement.
So, private companies value skills that many soldiers possess because we manage resources, we exercise talent management to develop and enhance our people's skills, and we have to deal with many types of advanced technology to accomplish our missions. And now and then we have to do all of those things in difficult and hazardous circumstances. The key, I think, is being able to translate our skills and accomplishments into language that a non-military person can understand. If they only knew how much we all can do...
