Not because I didn't think I deserved it or because I was a DB. I am in a small MOS, just over 400 total enlisted, and with the trend of prior years, 17 and 11 the two years prior, I didn't think there would be any on the list. I was 6 of 6 and the only one with a first look.

I had field time, garrison time, three deployments, E6 working in a E7 position and my associates degree. I don't know what the boards are looking for now but I have heard that they are gearing towards those in joint and operational environments. That's one of the reasons I applied for a special duty assignment. Time will tell if I made the right choice; my first look for E8 is next year. It's nearly impossible on normal years, with the aviation restructuring its even harder. 10 years TIG this year, probably going to retire as a SSG since they want folks with less time in grade now. I said it the day the list came out..."I will make it next year" I looked myself in the mirror, saw what I was lacking, gave no more excuses or felt sorry for myself, made the changes I needed to, focused more on my career and now I am very confident I have done all I can to be on the promotion list this year. If I don't make it, I am at peace with it because I gave it my all this past year.

My records are squared away, everything is dress right dress. I leave all in God's hands, I believe he will put me in the right place. I tell this to every peer and subordinate when it's time for you to get promoted you will. Everyday I go to work/class I give 100% no mater what and try to help everyone I come in contact with. There is a reason for everything that happens. Happy july 4th to my brothers and sisters have fun we all deserved it... Being a 25b they haven't promoted anyone to E-7 in 2 years. If they don't promoted anyone this year I'm probably going to change my job. It is what it is. This is my second look. I feel that my chances are just as good as anyone else that I know. If it doesn't happen, I'm not going to cry myself to sleep over it. We'll just have to see. :) Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 3 at 2016 4:10 PM 2016-07-03T16:10:54-04:00 2016-07-03T16:10:54-04:00 SFC Rob Frisk 1689018

Zero. One of the reasons I retired. I fast tracked (E7 in 10) and sat in grade for the next 12 years watching less qualified advance who's only precieved advantage was gender and race. *i seen my next 2 enlisted superiors in Bn and Group PQRs, I had more accomplishments by E4 than they did at E8. Advancement by acomplishment is a thing of the past. I've preached to all who will listen about where I went wrong. I focused too much on what the Army wanted out of me and my supply room, and I forgot to take care of myself. No EO, SHARP, or MRT. They had to push me to even go to ALC. I have no regrets...and hope those that grew up under me become my legacy. However not confident that will actually translate to getting a sequence number this year.
I will say, as I understand it this year should have a higher selection rate than many of the recent years. I suppose the implementation of the STEP program as well as the QMP boards should assist in thinning out the herd and opening up more projected slots.
