How could Army or Navy players go pro?

I watched the game and heard the announcers say they thought a couple players playing could go in the draft. Were they just saying they were good enough or is there a way they could be drafted and play professionally?

There was a policy change a few years ago that allowed athletes from the service academies to enter the draft and request a reserve commission and serve their obligation that way. The policy was rescinded in May of this year.

They get drafted. Recruiters watch them and they do it just like everyone else.

Roger Stallback was a USNA graduate, he served in the Navy for (I believe) 6 years, then went Pro. Each academy graduate has a 6 year commitment upon graduating. After that it is entirely up to them.

Different sport, but remember David Robinson was a Naval Academy graduate. That's how he got the nickname "The Admiral." He received a Reserve commission after graduating which incurred only a 2 year active duty obligation, then went on to be one of the greatest centers in the history of the NBA.
